May 11th was a special day of performance and celebration! Friends and family gathered to celebrate our graduates and enjoy their performances. Check out this standout freestyle performance from one of our most dedicated students, Avionne Longware. He took down the house!
In response to student requests, with help from the Find your Grind Foundation, Green Dot Public Schools will welcome Play with Music back to Locke High School in Watts, Los Angeles in March 2017. Students are in for another season of playing with music, complete with field trips, collaborations with major and indie artists, and last but not least, learning music, production and performance, by doing it!
Christina learned to play guitar and produced her first song during Play with Music. Christina submitted her work and was accepted into the 2015 BET Experience Youth Program, where she will continue to learn about careers in music and entertainment industry. Congratulations Christina !
Play with Music students perform at the Skirball Center during the annual Golden Dot Awards for an enthusiastic crowd of 500 educators, public servants and administrators. We are SO proud of them!
Vanessa Chavez wrote her first song during Play with Music program and submitted it into the Robert F. Kennedy Foundation's "Speak Up & Sing Out" song contest for human rights. Her song, "Free", is about overcoming domestic violence and is dedicated to her sister. Congratulations, Vanessa!

Vanessa was honored by teachers and administrators during the Robert F. Kennedy Center's Summer Institute for Teachers. As a finalist in their song competition, she was invited to work with teachers and perform her song.
